Mission Trips

Is this your year to GO?

We are on a mission to love people as we discover and live out our role in God’s story. One way we can do that is by going on a mission trip. We may think that a trip is about what God is going to do through us, but really it’s more about what God is going to do in us so that we more fully live out our own role in God’s mission every day. God tends to work in us through trips in three primary ways, and in your decision whether to GO, we encourage you to think if you are open to God moving in you in these ways.

First, a mission trip is a way to grow your vision of who God is. As you love on orphans who have been given a new family in Jesus, you will witness the true power of God’s love. As you wrestle with the reality of poverty and brokenness in the world, you will grow in your sense of our great need for Jesus.

Second, a mission trip is a way to see your own culture and life through the lens of another culture. As you work alongside a church in another place and culture, you will be inspired and challenged to grow in how you live out your faith in our own culture.

Third, a mission trip is a way for the church in one part of the world to partner long-term with the church in another part of the world. Mission trips are costly, and this cost is high if only for a short-term impact. But when we are open to God moving in us, a trip can be a catalyst for building relationships and long-term commitments with transformative power and eternal impact.

Take the Next Steps…
• Pray for wisdom and clarity as to whether God is calling you to a trip.
• Contact missiontrips@lakeforest.org if you would like to talk to someone about one of our trips.

2018 Mission Trips: Here’s what we have planned so far…

Children’s Impact Network Men’s Trip – Honduras: January 20-27: ROSTER IS FULL

Cost $2,000; October 1st deadline for application and $500 personal contribution.
For about 10 years now Lake Forest has partnered with Children’s Impact Network, who give orphans in Bolivia and Honduras a physical and spiritual home. The purpose of this trip is for you to see how God is at work through His church in another part of the world, for you to grow in living out your own role in God’s story, and for you to be a blessing to the children and God’s people in Honduras.

Dates and more details for the trips below coming in late 2017/early 2018

Caribbean Youth Network – Long Island, Bahamas: Summer 2018

For adults and youth 11 and older (with parent).
Join one of our partner missionaries, Gabe Swing, as he ministers to teens through the Caribbean Youth Network. You will have the opportunity to assist with work projects for the youth or underprivileged and/or develop a unique Christian Camp (music, art, sports, etc.) experience for the kids. Come make a Bohemian friend and encourage a teenager in their walk with the Lord through a game, a craft or a song. Help make repairs on one of their homes and help to build up the island which was recently devastated by recent hurricanes.

Come and be a visiting “tio” or “tia” (aunt or uncle) and stay in an apartment in their home called the Bolivia Life Center. Engage in the ritual known as “tickle time” before bed with the younger boys, come be a part of their pizza party, enjoy a dance performance by the boys, and tell stories around the bonfire. Help with projects around the Bolivia Life Center and partner with the local church in “Sidewalk Sunday School,” a mobile children’s ministry program to communities in need of the gospel.
